How earnings are calculated

Each AAdvantage hotel stay has two published reward numbers: baseMiles (what a base AAdvantage member earns) and elevatedMiles (what a Citi AAdvantage Executive World Legend cardmember with Executive Platinum status earns — the maximum).

The total bonus (elevated − base) splits into two parts: a card-earned portion and a status-earned portion. This split is calibrated to match three observed data points for Rio Hotel: 700 miles for a base AAdvantage member, 4,800 miles for an Executive card with no status, and 7,800 miles for an Executive card + Executive Platinum status. That puts roughly 58% of the bonus in the card portion and 42% in the status portion.

Where card is the card's hotel multiplier and status is the status bonus percentage. The status portion only applies if you also hold a card — which matches AA's own rules.

Loyalty Points + base mile earning on AA Hotels works on a simple 3-bucket model. AA gives a 5× multiplier for any AAdvantage card AND a 5× multiplier for any elite status (Gold or higher). They stack, with a cap of 10×.

All elite tiers (Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum) earn the same 5× multiplier on hotels. The +40/+60/+80/+120% status bonuses apply to flight earning, not hotels.
